The boys and girls tennis teams are currently competing in the district tournament.  As of the end of the day Monday, the results for Viera were as follows:

Boys singles:  All the boys were seeded #1 and therefore had a first round bye. 

In the second round, all the boys defeated their opponents and advanced to the finals which will be held today at 9 am.  Two of the boys matches went three sets and were very close—but Viera pulled through and advanced!.Boys doubles:  The boys were also seeded #1 in doubles and therefore had first round byes, and will begin the semi finals for doubles today.

Girls singles: 

Abby Lindsley was the only #1 seed for Viera, therefore she had a bye first round, but defeated her second round opponent 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the finals today.

Marci Hemsptead, Gabby Palicki, Christina Morelli, and Megan Cornthwaite were all #2 seeds for the tournament and therefore had a first round match.  Each of these players won their first round rather easily and advanced to the second round, where they, once again defeated their opponents.

As it stands, Viera will face Cocoa Beach for all five singles positions Tuesday at 9 am. 

For doubles:  Viera’s #1 doubles team played and won 6-0, 6-1 yesterday, advancing to the semifinals today.

Viera’s #2 doubles team was seeded #1 and therefore received a bye yesterday and will advance to the semifinals today.

Unless there is a major upset, Viera should face Cocoa Beach in the finals of the doubles later today.

Regardless, Viera’s boys and girls teams will finish either first or second in the district and will advance to the regional tournament on Tuesday, April 21.
