Coached by former Astronaut High star and three-time Cape Coast Conference champion Lindsey Minnihan-Waldrop, Viera’s JV girls’ team opened the 2008 season with a pair of fourth-place finishes, including a strong top 5 finish at the prestigious Astronaut Invitational in Titusville.

Viera also placed fourth in the Stuart South Fork Fleet Meet with a score of 120 points, trailing longtime JV power Melbourne, which placed third, by only 10 points.

Miami Our Lady of Lourdes won the title with a perfect score (15).

Leading the Hawks in the South Fork Fleet Feet meet was sophomore Erin Gethin, who clocked a personal-record, 5-kilometer time of 23 minutes, 28.57 seconds in placing sixth. It was Gethin’s second consecutive top-10 finish.
