25/12 - Away again on Thursday, this time at Bayside High School to battle the Bears.
The JV squad jumped on their opponents early with 5-runs in the first inning and then 4-runs in the second, two in the third and closed out the game with 3-runs in the fourth with a final score of 14-1. Center fielder Emma Graham led all hitters with three singles and scored 4-runs. First baseman Morgan Grazier collected two hits and 3-rbis and a run scored in her effort. Jordan Maggard rocked the opposing pitchers for 4-rbis and pitched a one hitter has she held the Bears to one run scored late in the fourth inning. Other action in theis game included a hit by Brooke Sutton and runs scored by Ciara Wigley (3), Katrina Dutton (2), and Jessica Thompson and Dominique LeBrun each scored once.
The Varsity Lady Hawks also romped on the Bayside Bears with a 14-2 win in their 20-hit performance. Kate Callinan (1-0) and Sarah Siebert (1-0) combined their pitching efforts to hold the Bears to just two-runs scored early in the game. Kate allowed her opponents only four hits in her three-inning performance. And, Sarah kept the engine running by closing out the game facing only 11-batters in the final three innings, allowing 2-hits and striking out 5 batters. In the hitting attack, Captain and first baseman Lindsey Bishop was 4-for-4, Kate Callinan 3-for-4, second baseman Mary Dawson 4-for-4, and center fielder Dee Anderson 4-for-4 and combined for 15 hits, 13-runs and 9-rbis in a great team performance. Kate struck for 2-doubles and a home run, both Mary and Dee each had 2-doubles and 2-singles, and Lindsey had 4-singles. Shortstop Shay Richardson also shined for the Hawks with a triple and 2-runs scored. Early on Natalia Acosta drove in two runs in the first inning with her 2-base hit. A great hitting display by the Lady Hawks.
2/24/12 - On Wednesday the Varsity and Junior Varsity Softball teams traveled to Satellite High School to take on the Scorpions.
In the early JV game the Hawks won 8-0. Karen Kelley started the game pitching to just six batters with six straight outs in the two innings. Jordan Maggard took over the pitching role and combined for just a two hitter and shutout the Scorps in the final 3-innings. Outfielder Katrina Dutton once again led all hitters with 3-singles and 1-rbi. First baseman Morgan Grazier scored 2-runs with 2-triples and Jordan Maggard added 2-singles and scored a run. Other standouts in this game included Emma Graham, Kaylee Nutting and Jessica Thompson each with a single, run scored and run-batted-in. Remaining runs were scored by Kasey Mimbs (2) and Ciara Wigley.
In the late game, the Varsity squad was held to just two hits by the opposing pitcher and lost late in the game 3-1. The Hawks scored first in the second inning when Kate Callinan drove a long fly ball against the right field fence for a double. She later scored on a hit-ball and rbi by Dee Andersen who was safe at first on a throwing error. The Scorps tied the game in the 4th inning with two hits. Ana Breeden pitched brillantly and battled through the sixth inning with the score tied when a combination of a two hits and two errors gave the winner the final two runs.
